Dialogues with an old friend

— You keep calling, even though you know I can't take you.

— And you keep coming, even though you know you won't do it.

— Here I find peace. Everyone else is terrified when they see me; no one wants to come near me. But you, you open your arms and beg for me when you know you can't have me.

— Peace is what I also seek when calling. One that only you can grant.

— I assure you the day will come. But, old friend, we've had this conversation so many times, we've spent so many sleepless nights just talking, you and I, that I begin to long for something more.

— What more could you want than our conversation?

— I've begun to wish for your rejection. A thought invades my mind, that on the day I can fulfill my promise, my peace will be greater if you would also flee like the others. If, when the day arrived, you also wanted to stay. If you found something that made you never call again...
